Lokelani Hale with Air Conditioning

It wasn’t when we flew over the islands or stepped off the plane in Lahuí nor as we drove alongside the vast blue ocean or through miles of lush vegetation on our way to Hanalei. No. It was the moment we stepped inside Lokelani Hale that we knew without a doubt we had arrived in paradise. Exhausted after long flights, airport hubbub, baggage claim and rental car lines, we were all uncannily energized AND calmed as we explored Lokelani Hale’s detailed perfection feeling more like trespassers than renters with each step. We could literally hear the owners voices whispering, “Welcome to our home.”With proptotic eyes we looked back at each other and cried, “Oh my god!” sensing we had slipped into a private utopia we would call home for the next eight days. The house eerily chose our rooms for us and without hesitation we followed. Unbeknownst to us, as we unpacked and nestled into our delightfully blissful, squeaky-clean and perfectly accommodating rooms, Lokelani Hale’s most outstanding feature lay waiting, pulsating silently in the dark to be revealed by morning’s light.My husband and I were the first to awaken. But for the magnetic pull of the sun and the ocean, our bodies and souls wanted nothing more than to stay blissfully swaddled in the most comfortable bed and bedding you’ve never even dreamed of. (Of course, my first reaction was to look for tags and labels because our ratty old sheets and linens back home would have to be replaced posthaste!) Then, as our bare feet touched the floor, that rich, pampered sensation rushed over us again — shiny, mirror-like floors cool to touch with not a speck of dirt or sand created a weightless sensation as we glided across the room and tiptoed out into the main area of the house. Struck again by proptosis, we stared incredulously at the Sistine chapel-sized mural of Nirvana that was surely painted by the ghost of Michelangelo passing in the night — a backdrop of gorgeous mountains spewing long, streaming waterfalls everywhere framed a towering Banyan tree perfectly centered in the backyard amidst lush vegetation and tropical plants with a discreetly placed Buddha smiling ever so serenely back at us . . . wow. Futile to adequately describe and completely omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent, we were helpless. What could we do but give in? We took our coffee and a deep breath as we stepped through an otherwise normal-looking doorway . . . but was it? . . ., and found ourselves deeply immersed in Nirvana contemplating whether we were really still alive and did it really matter anyway?Though the kitchen is more than accommodating with beautiful appliances, spacious granite countertops and all the cookware, dishes and utensils one might need, we didn’t really use it much because we chose to immerse ourselves in the local cuisine at area restaurants. Brilliantly located about four-tenths of a mile from downtown, delicious eating establishments abound in Hanalei with plenty of other superb places to eat only a few miles away by car. We did use a heavy-duty Ninja blender to make our protein coffee enjoyed each morning in full meditative trances on heaven’s deck because, no matter your religious persuasion (if any), you are moved to give thanks to gods everywhere for the gift of Kauai and Lokelani Hale.The master suite not only has a gorgeous bathroom, a huge walk-in shower and closet, but, like the main area of the house, offers another entire wall of windows opposite a kingsize bed with that same Michelangelo “I don’t ever want to leave this room” view. Meticulously thoughtful landscaping just outside that insane wall of windows invites birds, wildlife and wild moa (chickens and roosters) to entertain you. But, let’s be honest . . . one can only stare at that view so long before becoming absolutely worthless . . . you spent a lot of money and effort to get here . . . there is so much more you planned to see and do . . . Oh no! . . . willpower is waning . . . must get up . . . get on with the day . . . then . . . a flash of genius! If you hurry back before dark, you can once again slip back into your trance on heaven’s deck, in the kitchen, in the day room, in the dining room, in the living room, or the master suite . . . for the force is everywhere in Lokelani Hale.Within two weeks of returning home, my husband had us book a return trip for next year. He is hooked and wants to come back to Lokelani Hale every year. My apologies for not offering much in the way of practical details, but Na Pali Rentals, Inc.’s website covers all of that. After reading other reviews, I felt compelled (by the mysterious Lokelani Hale force?) to try and convey how staying at Lokelani Hale FEELS — how it truly enhances your trip to one of the most beautiful places on earth. Sure, you can spend lots more money and stay across the street with views of the ocean, but you will see that view everyday as you walk the beach and go anywhere. Come home to Lokelani Hale where you can rinse off the salt and sand, ground yourself and experience a close encounter of the ethereal kind . . . those indescribable and ever-changing mountains with clouds and showers coming and going, magical waterfalls turned on and off by the sun as double rainbows are painted on blue skies right before your very eyes. Kauai shouldn’t be classified as a tourist attraction nor Lokelani Hale just another rental property. No, they are real life, physical manifestations of heretofore imaginary places or states of mind. Sit back, relax, breathe in the moist, warm tropical air and focus on the beauty that surrounds you — don’t try to do too much . . . just be.You’re welcome.

The house was better than we expected. We loved the location, we were we able to walk everywhere. I would love to come back and will rent this home again!

We had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay with our family at Lokelani. It is perfectly located, walking distance to town and beach (1 block).
The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you need, Bedding is luxurious, beautiful landscaping and lots of hang-out space.
Loved this home very much and highly recommend it.

This is our 3rd house we've rented in Hanalei and our favorite. Very easy booking and check in. House has a good supply of beach chairs, coolers, wagon, etc. Absolutely beautiful property in a great location in Hanalei. Close to the beach and town. The back yard is a mini paradise with views of the mountains and visiting chickens. Friendly outdoor cat hangs out, which the kids loved. Plenty of space for a family of 4. Highly recommended!

We loved the backyard with incredible mountain views, the daybed in the living room, and the extremely comfortable beds/pillows. Fantastic house. Everything you could possibly want for a stay in Kauai. Walking distance to the beach. Napali properties took care of us the entire time. Extremely helpful all the time. Everyone is great. Stay here. Look no further. No reason to leave the North Shore. We hardly used our car. Amazing

Staying here made our vacation to the nicest part of the nicest island in the world even more special. It is the ideal location to enjoy all of the north shore, and you can get to the East side easily enough if you need or want to. The ability to walk to the adorable town and the magnificent beach cannot be underestimated. Then the home itself is a treasure. The beds are comfortable and has 3 well spaced bedrooms. The common space encourages connection and relaxation with those giant windows showing the tropical foliage and mountains. The back yard was a whole aspect of our trip with its beautifully and naturall landscaping. I saw some flowers here that I didn’t even see on our garden tour! One of my sons opted out of some activities and he loved his time working on music in the incredible setting. A week was not nearly enough time to explore the area nor the relaxing nooks and artwork of the home. The kitchen was well stocked and easy to work in. When the island had a black out, Hali communicated with us and there were flashlights at the ready. We are grateful beyond measurre for this opportunity.

The description and photos don’t do this home justice. It is absolutely beautiful. The views from the backyard are spectacular. The layout of the space allows for everyone to have a privacy and shared space at the same time. The location, just steps from the beach makes it easy to enjoy Hanalei Bay and also walk to town for entertainment. There are plenty of towels and linens. The beds and pillows are super comfortable. We spent 12 nights at Lokelani Hale in June 2024. Everything about the house was as advertised. Except for the very friendly cat (outside) that the house owner adopted. She was a sweetheart and we enjoyed feeding her every day.The house is a short walk (say around 200 yards) to the Pavilions beach access. Honestly the best part of the beach (as far as swimming goes) and not having to fight for parking is a big plus. Went for long walks on the beach every day. It goes around 2 miles so it is easy to find a spot by yourself. Not a far walk to the pier either.Easy walk to town for restaurants and shoppingThe view of the mountains from the back yard is amazing. You'd swear you weren't in the middle of the neighborhood. The area in back of the house is undeveloped. Your own private area to relax. Nice deck.Nicely landscaped front and back.The house was nicely decorated and well equipped. Beds were comfortable. It looks like the inside was redone not that long ago. Plenty of beach stuff (chairs, umbrellas etc).The only thing I would upgrade is the BBQ grill...it's a pretty rudimentary one as far as controlling the heat for steaks and fish. Napali Properties is great to deal with...very responsive. We've been using them on and off for over 20 years for here (and Haena).Highly recommended!

This home was perfectly situated between the cute little town and the beach. The home was immaculate and comfortable with lots of drawers and cabinets for storage. The rental agent was responsive when small repairs were needed (door lock). I highly recommend this property and the rental agency.

Magnificent. beautiful home perfectly placed for quick walk to the beach or quick walk to restaurants and shopping in Hanalei. The house has indoor and outdoor nooks to escape and relax. It came with a fully appointed kitchen that withstood entertaining family staying at other rental properties.The garden has beautiful mature trees, shrubs, and flowers. Hali at NaPali properties was easily contacted and ready to remedy the smaller problem or need.
This stay was heaven on earth

What a perfectly located property. One block to the sand and one block to the village. A stunning view of the mountains on the backside as well. Morning coffee was seeing the magical tree in the yard come to life with the mountains and a beautiful waterfall in the distance. This home had everything you could ask for and NaPali properties were so communicative and accommodating. Thank for making our time on the island that much sweeter.

This was one of the most comfortable houses we have ever rented. The location was close to the beach and the charming little town of Hanalei just a short walk. The kitchen was very well appointed and we even did some cooking. We are already talking about coming back for 14 days next year. Thanks for everything

All of our expectations were exceeded by this home rental. The pictures don't do it just - the home is in impeccable shape, the central living area is full of light and comfortable nooks for relaxing, all the beds are great and the bathrooms and kitchen are totally updated. The backyard is a beautiful oasis as well. The location also can't be beat - walk to Hanalei Bay and town in just a couple of minutes. We hope to return soon!

Amazing location!!! Mountain View’s that are jaw dropping. Very comfortable home. Kitchen is well equipped, a sharpened knife would be useful if you coo. Dishwasher was broken but we made it work. Your in Hawaii with beautiful while washing dishes. Jane was very responsive just difficult to get a new dishwasher especially on holiday weekend. We would return to this property.

This house was an absolute perfect choice for our family of 4. Being able to have a short walk to the beach as well as the town of Hanalei was very convenient. The house was extremely clean, had plenty of room and was stocked well. Even the large backyard was a great place to unwind in the evening! Also, the Na Pali Properties staff was very accommodating before and during our stay (thanks Hali). We have been to Kauai multiple times and will return soon, plus, we will definitely stay at this house again (and again)!!

This house is in a perfect location - close to town and the beach. There is the most perfect huge tree in the spacious backyard. The property managers were very helpful and responsive!

Loved all the different spaces inside. Only issue is it sleeps 6 but there are only chairs for 4 at the dining room table and at the table outside also so if you are playing cards makes it difficult. Also the outdoor area needs some sort of covering so you can enjoy the outdoors even when it’s raining or sunny out. Other than that it was perfect.

This house hosted the best vacation of my much-traveling family! There were six of us, parents and two children with their partners. Everyone had a bedroom and bath, and the large living area gave us all space to spread out. The beautiful backyard provided oranges and grapefruit -- it was a tropical dream. We could walk into town for shave ice and fresh fish, or down to the beach for a run. The location couldn't be better. We will definitely come back.

Definitely would recommend it. There was no need for air conditioning so I am not sure how great that system worked.

Wow! What a beautiful home! We were beyond thrilled with our stay. The house was beautifully decorated, full of amenities, the beds were SO comfortable, and the neighborhood was lovely. Quick walking distance to the beach, grocery shopping, and restaurants. We can’t wait to book this house again next year!

We've begun a tradition of spending every other Thanksgiving week in the Lokelani home with our daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. The house is wonderful, centrally located and spacious. The large backyard is great for our grandson.

We simply cannot rave enough about this incredible property. We stayed at Lokelani for the second week of our Kauai vacation. There is something very special and personal about this home. The furniture, artwork, decorations, gardening and all appointments were created with detail and love. The location was perfect... so very close to the beach, and close to the town for restaurants and shopping. This home is extra special! Also Mary and the staff at Napali Properties couldn't be nicer and more accommodating. Mahalo!

I think this is the best decorated house in Hanalei. It's natural lighting and great yard add to that to make it something from a magazine. A water filter in the fridge and extra small additional all helped us feel at home.
